Jesus' Physical Appearance – A Conversation
Discussing my new book with Contingent History
This week I had the privilege of sitting down for an interview with PhD student, Tyler Blaine Wilson, who writes the excellent substack, Contingent History.
Of all the ‘stacks’ I have read, Tyler’s shares a vision closest to my own: making biblical scholarship on the gospels accessible to the interested reader. So if you enjoy Behind the Gospels and haven’t crossed over to Contingent History, do give Tyler a read!
The purpose of the interview was to discuss my book, Jesus’ Physical Appearance: Biography, Christology, Philosophy which was recently published Bloomsbury. The book is currently £81 (at 10% off), so perhaps not one for your Christmas wishlists, but I hope that this interview serves as a broad overview of my research. (And if you’re interested in reading the PhD thesis behind the book, you can find it online for free.)
We discussed why we don’t find a physical description of Jesus in the gospels, the meaning of Jesus’ fashion, and whether the Gospels describe Jesus as short. It was a really stimulating conversation – I hope you enjoy the discussion as much as I did!
