I was recently asked by a reader whether Jesus believed in hell. It is an excellent question, since post-mortem judgement is a topic that Jesus addresses more than almost any other in the gospels. Yet it is also a difficult question to answer, for reasons that are as emotional and theological as they are theoretical.
